DAY 1 - The Participants Gather

While the Other Lands Other Sounds team set up during the day, the participants made their way to Gois from various countries, by various routes, and at various times. At exactly 1 o'clock, Filipe (our Music Leader) asked everyone to participate in our first Happening.

A Happening is a little creation of Filipe's that fits well with the numerology of our workshop. Day 1 happens to be August 1st, so at 1pm, we all have to do "something" together. On Day 2, August 2nd, at 2pm, we all do another "something", and so on.

For our first Happening, Filipe sent out the following instructions:

"Since we are all still apart the Happening brief for today will be: At exactly 1pm take either a picture or make a 1 minute sound recording on your phone of something that catches your attention wherever you are at that moment". 

The resulting flood of photos, videos, and sound recordings capture beautiful moments from around the world. They are fragments, starting points, hints at what we could offer to the group as material for creating. We probably won't develop them further, but they help the group to share a sense of creative excitement, even though they hadn't arrived together, yet. Later that night when everyone (minus Tamsin who had an emergency back in London and will hopefully be joining us a little late) finally convened in Gois, we shared a delicious dinner together. Over desert and coffee, we then picked our names out of a hat to find out who we would partner with on creating the next Happenings. I'll try and continue sharing them here each day so you can get a sense of how they develop.
